With summer in full swing and produce plentiful, the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Simple Abundance Cooking Class series is bringing you a special class titled, Pickling, Canning & Preserving with Summer Produce taught by Chef Steven Satterfield of Miller Union on Monday, Aug. 22. Chef Satterfield will demonstrate the process of Canning Plum Tomatoes, Bourbon Peaches, Pickled Okra, Pickled Green Beans and Green Tomato Chutney. The class is $55 (with all proceeds donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank) and includes wine tastings sponsored by National Distributors and a chance to win tasty door prizes provided by Bella Cucina Artful Foods and Cabot Cheese.

The class will be held from 7-9 p.m. at The Cook’s Warehouse in Midtown/Ansley Mall at 1544 Piedmont Road, Suite 403-R, Atlanta, GA 30324.

ATLANTA – After the original Havana Sandwich shop was “completely gutted” by fire in 2008, two Havana Sandwich shops opened in the general vicinity of the “original” both claiming the title.

Over the years, there has been much debate about which shop deserved the title of the original, but for many, Havana Restaurant at 3979 Buford Highway in Atlanta retains the crown. Considered one of Atlanta’s iconic restaurant survivors along with the Varsity, The Collanade and the recently closed Pano’s and Paul’s, Havana has been serving up sandwiches and Cuban fare for 35 years.  

Eddie Benedit Sr. and his wife, Debbie, opened the restaurant in 1976, only a couple of years after he came to the United States from Cuba. Eddie was always very conscious of the restaurant’s quality, consistency and affordability, and prices reflect that.

ATLANTA – On Friday, Chick-fil-A will be celebrating Cow Appreciation Day. Restaurants are offering a free meal to any customer dressed in “cow attire”, depending on how elaborate his or her costume is.

Chick-fil-A Founder Truett Cathy and President Dan Cathy will be touring local restaurants greeting customers.
