Taste of Atlanta announces 2014 restaurant lineup

ATLANTA –- More than 90 of Atlanta’s most notable and on-the-rise restaurants have signed on to participate in this year’s Taste of Atlanta, which will take place October 24-26 in Midtown at Tech Square.

With eateries featured from both inside and outside the Perimeter, festival-goers will be able to savor truly authentic flavors that represent every corner of the city.

New this year, to help attendees pinpoint their local favorites or discover new dining treasures during Taste of Atlanta, the festival will take food lovers on a culinary tour through the city’s many diverse neighborhoods.

Mellow Mushroom to celebrate 40th anniversary with 1974 prices

ATLANTA -- Mellow Mushroom is celebrating its 40th birthday Wednesday by offering some items on its menu at 1974 prices.

The restaurant, which was founded in Atlanta by Georgia Tech students, says on its Facebook page that it is celebrating with a Way Out Wednesday Party.

As part of the celebration, one customer will win a trip to Amsterdam.

Special pricing is offered on these items:

  • Small cheese pizza: $2.50
  • Bud Light: 75 cents
  • Michelob: 75 cents
  • PBR: 75 cents
  • Coca-Cola products: 30 cents

The restaurant chain says prices are for one day only. The small cheese pizza offer has a limit of one per guest, dine-in only, with additional ingredients at current menu price.

Krispy Kreme makes the happiest doughnuts

(WXIA) -- Next week is National Smile Week. Doughnuts make people happy. Why not put those two points together?

From Aug. 11-17, Krispy Kreme will offer Fun Face Doughnuts at its U.S. locations.

The doughnuts are filled with the chain's signature Kreme, topped with bright yellow icing and decorated with cute expressions.

J. Christopher's to relocate

J. Christopher's to relocate

ATLANTA -- The J. Christopher's restaurant on Ponce de Leon Avenue will close this weekend.

Operating partner Barry Lennon said the lease on the property expired and management is looking for another suitable location in Virginia-Highland.

"We ... haven't found that perfect one quite yet," Lennon said in a release. "We have loved serving our customers in the Poncey-Highland area and look foward to opening our doors in the neighboring Virginia-Highland area when the time is right."

In the meantime, employees of the Ponce de Leon J. Christopher's will be offered positions within the chain's other Atlanta-area locations.

The restaurant's last day in business at the current location is Sunday, Aug. 3.

The Southen Summer Classics offerings will be available through Sunday, Aug. 31 at participating locations. They include:

Banana Pudding
A moist shell doughnut filled with banana Kreme filling, topped with a yellow icing that hints of the flavors inside and a vanilla wafer topping

Carrot Cake
A cake doughnut with carrots and spice, topped with cream cheese icing and stripes of orange icing

(WXIA) -- Krispy Kreme is preparing for its 77th birthday. To celebrate, it is offering customers a special deal on its signature donut, the Original Glazed.

"Made from a recipe dating back to the 1930's, our uniquely delicious Original Glazed donuts help set Krispy Kreme apart from any other sweet treat retailer," Krispy Kreme chief marketing officer Dwayne Chambers said in a release.

On Friday, July 11, Krispy Kreme customers can buy a dozen Original Glazed donuts for only 77¢ with the purchase of another dozen donuts. The offer is available all day at participating restaurants.

Local restaurants make 5 Make-a-Wish dreams come true

Local restaurants make 5 Make-a-Wish dreams come true

(WXIA) -- Diners at two metro Atlanta-based restaurant chains had a hand in making wishes come true for five very special children.

Throughout March and April, J. Christopher's and Reveille Café customers donated more than $47,000 to the Make-a-Wish organizations in Georgia and Middle Tennessee. Make-a-Wish grants surprises to children living with life-threatening medical conditions.

Thanks to the diners' generosity, Make-a-Wish was able to send five kids on trips of a lifetime:

Andrea, age 3
Hematologic (blood) disorder
Andrea got to go to Disney World and meet her idols -- Mickey and Minnie; Peter Pan and Tinkerbell; Pluto and Goofy.

Bryce, age 4
Wilms' tumor (kidney cancer)
Bryce got to fly on a plane to Disney World, ride the rides and meet Mickey Mouse.

Elijah, age 8
Respiratory condition
Elijah took an "absolutely awesome" trip to Disney World.
