FOOD REVIEW: Local Three Kitchen & Bar, Atlanta, GA

Local Three is located on Northside Drive within a very nice set of office buildings and if not for the breadcrumb-like signs it’s doubtful we would have ever found this gem of a restaurant regardless of being at the address. Fortunately, someone’s utter genius realized that without additional signage we could not have found our way but their signs lead us right to the door and to true culinary bliss.

t’s been a wonderful year in Atlanta dining and this year there were some difficult decisions for us to make selecting the Top 10 Atlanta Restaurants for 2010. While we had the pleasure of enjoying many fine meals throughout the year, the following restaurants distinguished themselves in both food quality and service capturing not only a spot in the Top 10 Atlanta Restaurants for 2010  but also a place in our hearts.

Yoforia Goes Self-Serve in the Highlands

Yoforia closed their Virginia Highland location on Friday, Dec. 31, with plans to reopen the fourth week of January with a new layout.

The frozen yogurt shop has launched a company wide initiative to retrofit all preexisting Yoforia storefronts will a self service model.

The West Midtown location, opened late last month at 1100 Howell Mill road as a self service location. Grand opening festivities are planned for Sat., Jan. 15 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. according to Marsha Middleton, a company spokesperson.

“Self service goes over better for the consumer, especially for families who want to monitor their consumption and full customization.”

Yoforia will charge 0.39$ an ounce and offer nearly 30 toppings and 12 flavors.

The remodel will allow for six machines, each with two flavors tripling the number of available flavors from four to twelve.

Soon, Highland’s Dwellers will have a new venue to hold their cosmopolitan after work and weekend meet-ups. The Real Chow Baby, the popular create-your-own stir-fry restaurant is celebrating the opening of their new location, which is located on Ponce de Leon Avenue.

The Real Chow Baby is Atlanta’s first create-your-own stir-fry restaurant. The first location is located on Howell Mill Road. During their grand opening, The Real Chow Baby will present a check to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed for more than $7,600 for the City of Atlanta Parks & Recreation’s "Centers of Hope" to help support his initiative to improve the city of Atlanta by investing in its youth and building additional recreation centers.

Genki Sushi to Open on North Highland Avenue

According to whatnowatlanta.com as of December 5th, Everybody’s Pizza will no longer inhabits it’s home at 1040 N. Highland Avenue, Genki Sushi Bar and Grill will take the restaurant’s place. Everybody’s Pizza will remain open at their Emory Village location open.

The proprietors of Genki Sushi Bar, recently, filed a building permit with the city of Atlanta this week for “interior renovations” and “exterior facade modifications.”

Currently, Genki Sushi Bar has two locations.

Highland Bakery chefs win on Food Network

Highland Bakery cake designer Joshua John Russell with assistant Karen Portaleo won the Food Network Challenge Sunday night, creating a cake based upon the Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast.”

The winners from the Old Fourth Ward bakery beat three competing teams in an eight-hour competition to create the perfect sculpted confection. Competitors were judged on theme, artistic value and technical merit which was determined by three judges including one of the creators of the movie.
