ATLANTA -- Despite pleas from parents, the list of Atlanta Public Schools slated for closure remains unchanged.
The school district released Superintendent Erroll Davis' final recommendations Tuesday morning.
On the chopping block:
Parks Middle School
Capitol View Elementary School
F.L. Stanton Elementary School
Towns Elementary School
White Elementary School
Cook Elementary School
East Lake Elementary School
D.H. Stanton Elementary School
Kennedy Middle School
Herndon Elementary School
"While it is difficult to propose the closing of any school, it is a necessary step to ensuring that all of our schools are enrolled to minimum capacities so that essential educational resources can be equitably distributed," Davis said in a public letter to APS parents, students, staff and supporters.

Even though the schools up for closure remain unchanged, under Davis' final recommendations, BEST/CSK schools would no longer be clustered, students at Kennedy would get to stay in their school longer and Cook would no longer be used for 6th grade.

The Board of Education will vote on the proposal Tuesday night in a meeting at Maynard Jackson High School. Members of the community will have a chance to speak at 6 p.m. Sign up begins at 5 p.m. The school is located at 801 Glenwood Avenue SE in Atlanta.
If approved, most of the schools would close at the end of this school year.
